Last week we went touring around the grid with our very own personal tour guides to share our favourite places, and this week Berry asks us about our lighting... Wind-lighting that is... Ever since I first started using wind-light, I have been addicted - admittedly I was a late starter as my PC wasn't up to running it and everything else at the time - but now there is no way back and I actually occasionally feel somewhat affronted if people around me wear face lights LOL...
So for the photo I went somewhat Au-natural lol - if you ignore the fact my outfit is a little bonkers of course and the shadow of a border that I put int there - I may well edit this photo too because I like the randomness of it, but I took the photo in a very simple, basic but with shadows Wind-light setting, that came from the mind of Miss Luna Jubilee. This was the first wind-light that I ever used when I could finally see shadows, so it has always been somewhat of a fall back starting point for me when I have no idea where to start LOL...
So anyway, Berry wants to know about our Wind-light likes, dislikes and settings, I can't say that my answers to this are very interesting so if you are easily bored look away now LOL...
Do you use wind-light while taking pictures? If not, why not? Yeah I do, I will dammit that I was a bit slow to get them to be something I used on a daily basis when they first appeared. My PC wasn't good enough to take it, then I got a new PC and I didn't look back. Not only for taking pictures, I love having control of the lighting in whatever setting I am in!
When taking a closeup snapshot for a profile picture, which windlight preset do you use most often? This REALLY depends on the look of the photo that I want to create, and my looks vary so much that one day I could be dark and scary looking and the next day I could be rainbow coloured and hippy, so it will really depend on my mood... Plus I don't tend to think about pictures being specifically for my profile until I actually finish them and think oh that's cute!
Which windlight presets do you use for full body portraits? This will vary for me too, depending on the mood and the look I want to create. I will admit though that I do use wind-light settings created by Luna Jubilee, as well as the Places wind-lights, those are my usual go-to.
If you do landscape photography, which wind-lights do you use for that most often? I don’t do landscape photography all that often, I am a little bit scared of it as I always think that my photos aren't very good. When I do try I will usually at least check to see what the region default settings are. A lot of places when they are being created use special settings to match their space so a lot of places seem to be best viewed in the chosen wind-light settings of the creators who are sharing their artistic vision... I think anyway?!
Do you have any tricks or tips that you could share for using Wind-light effectively? For me it's all about trial and error... Spend time playing around with things and click that camera button regularly to make sure you never miss that perfect moment. One thing that I always forget though is that sometimes, no matter how hard I try, things will always look different when they are stored on my hard drive. They never seem to look the same out of SL lol... What am I doing wrong?
Have you created any wind-lights that you would be willing to share with us? I created one to make things look brighter way back when I was working for Seraphim, and it is the one that I use as my main setting the vast majority of the time now because everything looks bright and clear. At the moment I haven't gotten it uploaded anywhere but if you want it I will be more than willing to share it with you.
In the process of working on this photo, I decided that I WOULD edit it LOL... boy did I fluff the heck out of it LOL... See...
